Doris Darlene Johnson
1931-2018

Doris Darlene Johnson was born November 27, 1931 in Claude, TX. She was the only child of Herman and Edna Deaton. Growing up, Darlene attended 32 different schools in Texas and Oklahoma, graduating from Greenville Texas High School in 1949. She attended East Texas State University to pursue a nursing degree; however, she met the love of her life. Darlene married John B on December 17, 1955. To this union three loving, beautiful children were born, Jolene Johnson, Janette Johnson and Wesley Johnson.

Darlene was an Air Force wife, setting up homes in Louisiana, Texas, Ohio, Virginia, Goose Bay Labrador, Canada and retired to Edmond, Oklahoma.

She was active in her community. Darlene was a 60-year member of Beta Sigma Phi making many lifetime friends. She was also a 59-year member of Girl Scouts where she enjoyed many an outing and cookie sales with her daughters.

Upon John’s retirement, Darlene and John traveled the country in their motor home eventually joining an RV club. She and John also enjoyed spending many weekends at their lake place on Lake Eufaula.

Darlene is preceded in death by her husband John B., and parents Herman and Edna Deaton. She is survived by her children, Jolene “Jo” Johnson of Edmond, OK, Janette “Jan” Johnson of Lincolnton, NC and Wesley Johnson of Little Rock, Arkansas, two grandchildren, Addison Johnson and wife Stephanie of Durant, OK, Lauren Johnson of Madill, OK, and one great-grandchild, Athena Johnson of Durant, OK. She is also survived by her loyal dog companion Muffy.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Beta Sigma Phi, Dorothy Ross Scholarship (in memo) P.O. Box 8500 Kansas City, MO 64015. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, March 23, 2018 at Matthews Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, March 24, 2018 at Matthews Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery Oklahoma City, OK.
