She was born July 23, 1925 in town of Hamburg, daughter of the late Robert and Otillie (Zastrow) Gruling. On April 3, 1948 she married Robert Tierney at the Church of the Holy Name of Jesus, Wausau. She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church for over 60 years.
Betty is survived by and is the loving mother of seven children; James (Vicki) Tierney, Wausau, Gale Tierney, Wausau, Gary (Janet) Tierney, Roseville, Minnesota, Debbie (Mike) Diewald, Madison, Michael (Susan) Tierney, McFarland, Thomas (Kristine) Tierney, Wausau and Tammy (Knox) Johnson, Kaukauna; 17 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; one brother, Bob (Eppie) Gruling, Merrill. She was preceded in death by, her beloved husband, Bob and 18 siblings.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 24, 2018 at St. Mark Lutheran Church, Wausau. Rev. Bruce Lamont will officiate. Entombment will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau.
