RI Argus - Thursday - April 12, 1900
The funeral of Frank McMeekin was held Wednesday at 11 o'clock from the residence of his mother, Mrs. Mary McMeekin, of Milan. The deceased, who was 39 years and 9 months of age, was born and raised in Rural township, and until 10 years ago made it his home. March 4, 1890, he married Miss Carrie Gifford, and a few months later, deciding to try a different part of the country, he with his bride, removed to Correctionville, Iowa, and there bought a farm and settled down. But after a few months in their new home, the young wife sickened and Feb. 22, 1891, she died. Until about a year ago he made his home in the neighborhood of the spot that had been the scene of his shortlived happiness, and then in quest of change, traveled to St. Louis. There Dec. 1, 1899, he was taken ill and conveyed to the hospital. After a couple of months serious illness with lung trouble he became able to travel, and realizing that his days were probably numbered, turned toward home and mother. He reached his mother's home in Milan last February. His remains were followed to the grave by many relatives and friends, whose beautiful floral offerings showed that he had not been forgotten by the friends of his early years. The funeral sermon was preached by Rev. Rutter, of the Milan M.E. church, and the following officiated as pallbearers: F.J. Schoening, F.W. Wiley, W. Coyne Jr., F.P. Baird, G. Bosold and A. Erickson. The deceased is survived by his mother, Mrs. Mary McMeekin, of Milan; two sisters, Lucinda at home, and Belle McMeekin, of Ewert, Iowa, and three brothers, John and James of Rural, and Joseph of Randolph, Iowa.
