Louis John Willenborg Jr. Age 83 passed away on March 16, 2018, at his home (Alma Via) in San Rafael, CA, after a courageous battle with multiple health issues. A celebration of Lou's Life will be held at Fernwood Funeral Home - 301 Tennessee Valley Rd, Mill Valley, CA. Reception to follow at San Rafael Joe's, 931 4th Street., San Rafael, CA. In place of flowers, we ask for contributions to be made to Alzheimer's research. Special thanks to his extended family at Alma Via, San Rafael, for taking such wonderful care of him the past six years.

He was a longtime Marin resident, having moved to Larkspur in 1979, for work, and then to Fairfax in 1988.

Lou was born in Gerald (West), Texas on July 6, 1934, to Louis J. Willenborg Sr. and Agnes (Janke) Willenborg, Sr.

He graduated from Lanier High School, Macon, Georgia in 1952.
He served in the US Army from 195759, as a proud member of the Honor Guard - 6th Infantry Regiment, in Berlin, Germany.

He is survived by his two daughters, Karen Cox and Susan (Joe) Lund, their mother, Sharon Corrao-Willenborg. Siblings, Mary Kamuck, Margo Storms, Keith Willenborg. Grandchildren, Ryan Cox, Kate, Alex and Jennifer Lund. He also had many cousins, still living in Texas, that he treasured visiting and stayed in touch with often.

Lou retired from a 30-year career with Pacific Bell in 1985. But he couldn't stay still for long and embarked on two additional careers in sporting good sales, and driving for Golden Gate Transit. He had incredible co-workers and many regular riders that allowed this extrovert to enjoy every day at the "office." He had a lifelong love for old European cars and Harley Davison motorcycles like the ones he had as a teen. He owned several blue cars, including 1965 Mustang, 1969 Porsche Targa, and 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser.
Lou loved to travel and made the most of his many trips to places including Hawaii, Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, England, Thailand, and Vietnam.
He was a lifelong Dodgers fan, but that didn't stop him from rooting for the Giants, and he loved the Warriors.
His gifts were his smile, sense of humor and kind spirit. He was an extraordinary man who could strike up a natural conversation with anyone.
If you ever spent time at the Coffee Klatch, Easy Street Cafe, or San Rafael Joe's, you most likely exchanged in a thoughtful conversation with Lou.
Lou aka Papa was also very special to his family, who always expressed his pride and love for them. He showed us all how to appreciate one another and express gratitude. He was a loving and caring man. Our family takes comfort in knowing that he is out of pain and we will always carry his memory in our hearts and minds.
