Brother to Frank M., Edward Von Pfister who ran a general store in Benicia, where it is said that Gold found was announced to by a young messenger of John Sutter ," Charles Bennett " who he sent a letter to Governor Larkin in Monterey regarding the land on which the gold was found was on Indian land. He wanted advisement on what to do since it wasn't his land.

After the death of John, his murderer Peter Raymond was captured, but his friends got him out of jail in Sacramento, they rode south for a time and was headed for San Miguel Mission in San Luis Obispo County, here his friends Samuel Bernard, Joseph Peter Lynch, Peter Quin, Peter Remer, and a Indian boy named John. It is noted that Peter Remer maybe the same person as Peter Raymond, they arrive at the Mission on Dec 4 1848, and spend the night drinking with Mr William Reed a Englishmen who was owner of the Mission, had turned the place into a like Bed and Breakfast. Next day, all of 11 people that were living at the Mission were killed making it the first mass murder in California. In all 13 people died in including John R Von Pfister and one of the posse men that caught up with these men in today's town called Summerville was Ramon Rodriguez. He was Naturalized in Hawaii on 9 March 1844, and would marry Sarah Rhodes, they had two children, Ida and Ramsay Von Pfister. Their mother play a important role as a tutor for Thomas Rooke, hānai father of Emma Naʻea Rooke, hired Sarah Rhodes von Pfister to tutor his daughter for the next four years. On June 19, 1856, Emma married Alexander Liholiho (who a year earlier had assumed the throne as Kamehameha IV) and became Queen Emma, she dies in 1885.
Sarah died in 1910 at Ashby De La Zouch, Leicestershire, England
Their daughter Ida Chambre b. 1849 Hawaii, died in England 1935

John R Von Pfister also married first to Anna P Kapua b. 1823 died 3 July 1845 Hilo, Hawaii. They had two children, Elizabeth Ann b. 1840 Hilo, Hawaii, married Charles James Bird, she died in Vancouver 1934, and a son John R b. 1842 - 1858 Hilo Hawaii
