Abe B. Gabbard Jr., 68, of San Mateo, Florida, passed away Thursday, June 28, 2012. He was born on March 5, 1944 in Richmond, Indiana, son of the late Abe B. and Bonnie Marie Rader Gabbard. A longtime resident of Florida, Abe moved to this area in 1977 after serving 15 years in the United States Marine Corps as a Gunnery Sergeant. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as an automotive mechanic. Abe was an avid NASCAR fan, and fisherman. He enjoyed all types of music, and other sports, and loved his gardening. Mr. Gabbard was preceded in death by his loving wife of 27 years, Gail James Gabbard; sisters, Betty Joyce Brockman and Shirley Marie of Richmond, Indiana; Loretta Elaine Gabbard of Williamsburg, Indiana and O'Dell Gabbard of Richmond, Indiana. Survivors include his children, Carla Pattison (David), DeLand, Florida; Guy Tuckerman, Holly Hill, Florida; Peggy Smith (Ricky), Lake Helen, Florida; and Shelva Strosahl, Holly Hill; grandchildren, Michelle Walka (Roseco), Daytona Beach; Christopher Noel, California; Shirley Smith, Lake Helen; Sean Strosahl. Holly Hill; Ralph Smith (Lynn), Lake Helen; two great-grandchildren; brother, Leslie B., Richmond, Indiana; and sisters, Lois B. Albertson, Monticello, Kentucky and Marcia Powell, Fountain City, Indiana; and many nieces and nephews. A private memorial will be held for family and friends at a later date.
