Dorothy "Dot" Elizabeth Dame
Feb. 05, 1945 - Mar. 15, 2018
Together Again
Dorothy "Dot" Elizabeth Dame, 73, passed away in the comfort of her home on March 15, 2018 with loved ones by her bedside. Dot was born February 5, 1945 in Independence, Iowa to Raphael Joseph Michels and Anna May (Spragg). She married Gardner "Chuck" Dame in 1988 and the adventure began. She was an extraordinary woman who could be described as determined and independent. She spent her career working in maintenance at Bloss Memorial Healthcare District which she considered to be a second family. Upon retirement after 28 years, she semi-retired to focus on her many beloved volunteer organizations. Recently she returned to work with the Winton Cemetery District "crew". She said she felt guilty for getting paid for something she so enjoyed.
Her many years of volunteer services include Winton Youth Baseball and Softball, Winton Community Law Enforcement Organization (CLEO) for 23 years, Merced County Youth Accountability Board (YAB), Winton VFW Auxiliary, Winton Historical Society and Winton Old Timers. She was preceded in death by her parents, the love of her life, her husband Gardner "Chuck" Dame and stepdaughter Rhonda Dame, and seven siblings: Ronald, Clement, Lyle, Bernard, Shirley, Eveline, and Margaret. She is survived by her son Bill (Suzanne) Thomas, their children Stephan (Emily) Thomas and Sarahanne (Andy) Dalton, and their children Rebekah, Dorothy, Viola, and Sophy. She is also survived by her daughter Sheri (Stephen) Sanders, her children Matthew Gordon, Courtney (Colt) Wettstein and their children Elizabeth and Zachary. Siblings Walt (Jean) Michels, Loretta, Rose, Bertha and numerous nieces and nephews. As well as seven Dame and Fielder children, 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She loved them all. She made the world a better place. May her spirit live in all of us as we memorialize a life well lived.
"A life well lived is a precious gift of hope and strength and grace, from someone who has made our world a brighter, better place. It's filled with moments, sweet and sad, with smiles and sometimes tears, with friendships formed and good times shared and laughter through the years. A life well lived is a legacy of joy and pride and pleasure, a living, lasting memory our grateful hearts we'll treasure."
A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 22, 2018 from 3:00 -7:00 p.m. with the funeral service following on Friday, March 23, 2018 beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Wilson Family Funeral Home located at 1290 N. Winton Way in Atwater. Burial to follow at Winton Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations may be made to Wreaths Across America (San Joaquin Chapter) or the Winton Historical Society.
