William was born about 1828 (1850 census). He was one time employed by the Adjutant-General's Department at Clinton, Iowa, after which he became route mail agent for the Mobile and Ohio Railroad, having his headquarters at Cairo, Illinois most of the time.

"The funeral of William T Tyner, whose death at Chicago on Friday last has been mentioned, took place yesterday from the residence of Mr. Joseph Shields. The body of the deceased was brought to this city by Capt. N. N Tyner, who, immediately upon hearing of the death of his brother, hd proceeded to Chicago to bring the coprse here for final interment. Many sorrowful relations and friends acoompanied the remains to their last resting place"
