James Lester Burgess was born to James William and Rosa Belle Bare Burgess in Park, Whatcom, Washington. James had 8 brothers and sisters; Clyde Ellis, Claude Albert, Arthur Earl, John Owen, Mary Edith, Gladys Elsie, Blanche Olive and Grace Rosamunde Burgess. He was 1st married to Juanita Jane 'McDonald' Wright in Michigan while living on the road as a traveling salesman in 1938. In 1947 James married the love of his life Aladair Gewndolyn 'Emerson' Nilson in Washington state, whom he was married to for 45 years. They had one daughter together.
