He was born to Abner and Emma (Hoenie) Hellwarth. On Oct. 29, 1939, he married Bernice Houts, who preceded him in death Oct. 15, 2003.

Surviving are two daughters, Connie (Ken) Leonard, Green, and Kathy (Ron) Davis, Massillon; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Deceased are two brothers, Sam Sr. and Orville; and two sisters, Gladys and Luella.

He was a retired farmer and member of the Ohio Farm Bureau and Hopewell Township Grange. He was a 1929 graduate of Celina High School and a member of Bethany United Methodist Church, Celina.

Services at the church, the Rev. Donald Ramsey officiating.
