Mass of Christian Burial for Karen Rae Hoppe, age 76, of Wausa, Nebraska will be at 2:00p.m. Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Bloomfield, Nebraska. Reverend Michael Schmitz and Reverend Tim Podraza will be Concelebrants with burial in Bloomfield City Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Brockhaus Funeral Home in Wausa, with a 7:30 p.m. Wake Service.
Karen died Saturday, January 6, 2018, at her home surrounded by her husband and children after suffering from congestive heart failure for many years.
Karen Rae Bauerly, daughter of Albert and Albertine (Millette) Bauerly, was born on December 28, 1941, in Des Moines, Iowa. For most of her early years she lived in Sioux City, Iowa with her parents and siblings. She attended a Catholic elementary School and attended Heelan High School until her sophomore year when her parents bought the Commercial Hotel in Wausa, Nebraska. She graduated from Wausa High School in May of 1960.
Karen married Lawney Hoppe of Magnet, Nebraska on June 25, 1960. They were blessed with five children, Lora, Jane, Edward, Jeffrey, and Richard. They lived in a small apartment in the hotel her parents owned until her parents built the Motel in Bloomfield and moved, then Karen and Lawney took over the managing of the Hotel.
Karens love of children didnt stop with her own. She babysat for many of the towns little ones throughout the years. She also loved to bake. Her specialty was chocolate chip cookies and pumpkin bread, which anyone who knew her has most certainly tried them and they are delicious. Her other love was sewing. In the beginning she would sew clothes for her children, then she started sewing clothes for others. Karen has even made wedding gowns and bridesmaid dresses. As the years went on, she found her love for embroidering and quilting. She hand-quilted more blankets and other items than we can count. Every niece and nephew would receive a quilt for his or her graduation or as a wedding gift. Then when the grandchildren started arriving she started quilting blankets and things for them. They also all received a quilt for graduation. Karen even has enough made to give to the grandchildren who have not graduated yet.
Karen was a member of St. Andrews Catholic Church in Bloomfield, St. Andrews Altar Society, and Christian Mothers. Her love for God was unwavering. She lived her life honoring him and the Catholic teachings.
Karen is survived by her husband, Lawney of Wausa; her daughters, Lora (Randy) Rohde of Fordyce and Jane (Dennis) Haselhorst of Osmond; sons, Edward (Missy) of Osmond, Jeffrey (Ann) of Fremont, and Richard (Brenda) of Osmond; grandchildren, Chris (Alyce) Rohde, Alex (Amy) Rohde, Kimber (Nick) Hohenstein, Alissa Haselhorst, Emily (Taylor) Nelson, Amanda (Jarrod) Paulsen, Emmett Hoppe, Ethen Hoppe, Samantha, Abigail, and Joshua Hoppe, McKayla, Wyatt, and Sydney Hoppe; great-grandchildren, Bailey Rohde, Tresden and Brooklyn Rohde, Nox and Lux Paulsen, and Brock Nelson; and sister, Marsha (Jack) Dahlseid of Yankton, South Dakota.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Albertine Bauerly; brothers, Keith and Jerry Bauerly; and granddaughter, Shayla Haselhorst.
