William W. (Bill) Ainley, 91, passed away at Fieldstone Memory Care in Yakima, WA, on March 6, 2018. Born in Los Angeles, CA, on December 24, 1926, he went immediately to Mexico, where his parents were missionaries, and where he lived until the age of 12. The family settled in Woodlake, CA, where Bill attended high school. In 1944, Bill joined the U.S. Navy just before his 18th birthday and signed on for the duration of the war (WWII). After discharge from the Navy in 1946, he attended Whitworth College in Spokane, WA, where he met his wife, Nancy. They were attracted to each other by their love for the Lord Jesus Christ and their desire to go to the mission field. After college and three years at Fuller Seminary, Bill was ordained to the ministry in 1952. He pastored churches in Medford and Klamath Falls, Oregon, from 1952 to 1956 before being appointed by the Presbyterian Board of Foreign Missions to do evangelistic work, church planting, and lay leadership training in Spanish Guinea, West Africa (now called Equatorial Guinea), from 1957 to 1969. Political changes in Equatorial Guinea forced the Ainleys to come home to the U.S. in 1969. Bill pastored the Granger Presbyterian Church from 1969 to 1977, and the Westport Community Presbyterian Church from 1977 to 1991, when he retired. After retirement, Bill and Nancy continued serving God through Campers for Christ and SOWERS, living in their small trailer and traveling to work sites as needed. One of their great joys in retirement was becoming acquainted with and involved in the Messianic Jewish movement, blessed to see how the Lord is opening the eyes of Jewish people to Jesus as their Messiah and Savior, and to have their own eyes opened to the importance of the Old Testament as the foundation of the New Testament. Bill Ainley summarized how he felt about his life as he reflected upon all that God has done by quoting Romans 11:33, Oh the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God, how unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out.

He is survived by two brothers, Robert Ainley (Shirley) of Yorba Linda, CA, Benjamin Ainley (Marge) of Fresno, CA, a sister, Bette Grier (Bill) of Delta Junction, AK, his sister-in-law, Helen Copeland, of Tacoma, WA, his daughters, Carolyn Pinke of Minneapolis, MN, and Rebecca Whitmore (Bruce) of Yakima, WA, his son, William C. Ainley (Arden) of Burlington, WA, 13 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Nancy Ainley, his brother, Charles Ainley, his parents, Charles and Vera Ainley, and his son-in-law, Bruce Pinke.
