ROCHELLE - Harry L. Allen, 82, of Rochelle died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002 in Mendota Community Hospital after a long illness. He and his wife farmed in Alto Township, Lee County until retiring and moving to Rochelle where they lived until moving to the Lutheran Home in Mendota in 2000.

He was born Aug. 9, 1919 in Rochelle, the son of Harry and Elsie (Weeks) Allen. On Nov. 7. 1953 he married Marie Elesser in Mendota. He was a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church and held memberships in Horicon Lodge #244, AF&AM, Valley of Freeport Consistory, the Tebala Shriners Club and Elks Club #1212 in Mendota. He had served in several offices on the Alto township Board. During World War II he served in the Pacific Theater as a member of the American Division, 132nd Infantry, U.S.Army.

Mr. Allen is survived by his wife, Marie, of Mendota; a son, Mark (Peggy) Allen of Rockford; a daughter, Mary Knorr of Columbus, Ohio; a sister, Dorothee (sic) Stoner of Rockford; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Blaine Allen.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002 at Faith Lutheran Church, 14206 E. Flagg Road, Rochelle, with Pastor Christopher T. Beamsley officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens, Rochelle, with military honors rendered by VFW Post #3878, Rochelle. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, 2002 at Lyons Cluts-Simes Funeral Home, 704 N. Sixth St. Rochelle and at the church for one hour prior to the funeral service Saturday morning.

Memorials have been established for Faith Lutheran Church and the Mendota Lutheran Home.
