Last living daughter of a signer of the Declaration of Independence. Her father was Elbridge Gerry, a Massachusetts signer of the Declaration of Independence and Vice President of the United States 1812-1814. He died in office and is buried in the Congressional Cemetery in DC. Emily served as First Regent of the New Haven-based Mary Clap Wooster Chapter of the D.A.R. (1893-1894). She was a Real Daughter (her father fought in the Revolutionary War).
