Paul was born on November 19, 1944, in Alexandria, Minnesota to Wallace & Ruth (Wicklund) Peterson. He was the fourth of eight children on the family farm near Lake Ida. After graduating from Jefferson Senior High School, Paul served in the United States Air Force from 1962 to 1965. His hobbies included wood-working, photography, music editing and remixing, fishing and hunting, particularly 19 consecutive elk hunts. Paul will be remembered for his master-level carpentry skills, his love of photography, a keen ear for music, and a great passion for languages. Paul could strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere, and he loved being in the great outdoors, particularly in the Rocky Mountains.
Paul is survived by his loving wife, Jan; his children, Joel Peterson of Everett, WA and Tonja (Luis) Alvarado of Bloomington, MN. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Jake, Emilio, Sophia, Claire and Morgan. Paul is survived by four sisters: Kathryn Pedersen of Texas, Virginia (Gary) Oberg of Litchfield, Margaret (Marlo) Schoeneck and Dorothy (Glenn) Van Amber of Alexandria, and brother Gary Peterson of Alexandria. Paul is also survived by Roxanne Olson of Darwin, and many special nieces and nephews.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace and Ruth, two sisters; Rose Marie (Dave) Gladen and Carolyn (Mark) Mattke, one brother-in-law, Robert Pedersen, and a nephew, Richard Schoeneck.
Per Paul's request there will not be a memorial service; a stone in his honor will be placed at the Lake Ida Cemetery, at a later date.
