James E. "Jim" Eiland, 69, had been surrounded by family when he walked peacefully with the Lord and was taken home on Tuesday, March 6, 2018.

Jim was a graduate of the University of Texas at El Paso and proudly served his country in the United States Navy with time spent as the Commander of the Naval Reserve Center located in Staunton, Va. He was an Electrical Engineer and taught at Blue Ridge Community College where he not only educated but also mentored and provided job placement assistance to his students. He owned his own research and development company where, among other things he developed and manufactured electronic equipment used by the Navy. Jim had a passion for life and lived it to the fullest at every opportunity. Some of his favorite things to do were play guitar, spend time fishing, relax at the beach and enjoy time with his family including his beloved dog, Mia. He was witty with a great sense of humor and was always compassionate towards others. He could often be heard saying, "Slow down, say that again real slow" and "just relax and enjoy yourself, life is too busy" to those he knew, as well as to anyone he might strike up conversation with. Jim was an inspiration and was known by many titles to include husband, daddy, pawpaw, brother, friend, neighbor and teacher.

He will be greatly missed and forever remembered by many to include his wife of 39 years, Ellen; three daughters and sons-in-law, Keith and Renee Lipinski, Tim and Jennifer Sutton, and Chris and Renee Hartless. He also enjoyed his 10 grandchildren, Kelsey, Nathan, Luke and Joey Lipinski, Devin, Tyler and wife Ellen and Alex Sutton, Brittany and Chase Hartless and Derek and Paula Hartless Davis. He had two great grandchildren, Aiden and Brantley Davis along with Caleb Sutton due in July.

To those who love him, do not look for him where he was but instead look to the heavens, feel his warmth in the sun, hear his voice in the winds or in the break of the seas and find him in the blooms of the spring flowers.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, March 9, 2018, in the Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory. A Celebration of life will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, March 10, 2018, in the First Baptist Church of Staunton by Pastor Steve Traylor. Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton is in charge of his arrangements. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.coffmanfuneralhome.net.
