John Carl Baker, born December 5, 1937, journeyed to heaven March 1, 2018 at the age of 80 with a gleeful smile. John was an astute man of admirable qualities and high standards. He waivered for no one. He lived by the mottos “If you’re on time you’re late” and “If you’re going to a meeting at least wear a sport coat.” In his career, John always approached whatever he did with perfect dignity and credible work ethic. He was a salesman for SWBell, various insurance companies and then moved into the bail bonding business; all the while, being an entrepreneur. The Oklahoma bail bonding school was set up exclusively by him and set the standard for future licensing for bail bondsman in the state of Oklahoma. He was a continual teacher and loved to share his knowledge with all. His stories drew people in to where they were mesmerized and didn’t want them to end. He received his education from the University of Oklahoma and Central State University. His knowledge of history marked every part of his life and he enjoyed pouring this information into young minds. Sharing the gospel of Christ was the thing he loved most in this life. He worked diligently in evangelism bringing people to know Christ. He lived his life based on a mission to make Christ known and believed if you don’t know Jesus, you need to know Him now. The body of Christ was important to him and he spent his time as a deacon, lay pastor and an ordained minister. He was a devoted husband to Anita and a loving father to Rhonda Abshire, Dawn Chrisostom, Darlene Baker-Mann and Danelle Baker. He was Pawpaw to his 11 surviving grandchildren and great-grandchildren and Uncle John to many adored nephews and nieces. He loved his family greatly. All men should strive to be like him.
