Albert F. Aufdenberg, 89, of Jackson, passed away Sunday, February 11, 2018, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
Born January 16, 1929, in Oak Ridge, Missouri, to Albert and Frieda Best Aufdenberg, Albert was the third of seven children. He and Jacqueline Jackie White met on a blind date, at the SEMO District Fair in 1954. They were married August 28, 1955, in Piedmont, Missouri. Four children were born to their union, Shirrell, Darrell, Don, and Mark.
Albert was raised in Tilsit and attended the former Immanuel Lutheran Grade School. He was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where he was baptized and confirmed. He proudly served on the finance committee, as an usher, church treasurer, and president of the congregation.
He was inducted into the U.S. Army on June 12, 1951 in St. Louis. He was a sergeant, serving with the 5th Armored Division. He spent nearly a year in Korea. He was honorably discharged March 11, 1953, at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas. He received the Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal.
Albert worked for Byron Lang Trucking and retired from Southeast Missouri State University, but his love for farming spanned his entire life. His children share his appreciation of agriculture.
His memberships include the Missouri Cattlemens Association, SEMO Cattlemens Association, Farm Bureau, VFW Post 10495 in Jackson, and Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post 158 in Jackson.
To cherish his memory, Albert leaves his wife of 62 years, Jackie Aufdenberg of Jackson; four children: Shirrell (J.L.) Routon of LeeS Summit, Missouri; Darrell (Karen) Aufdenberg of Jackson; Don (Donna) Aufdenberg of Jackson; and Mark (Wanda) Aufdenberg of Gordonville; eight grandchildren: Erika (Scott) Russell, Jody Routon, Jill (Aaron) Kuhn, Julie, Nathan, Andrew, Kaitlyn, and Lauren Aufdenberg; two step-grandchildren: Zach and Taylor Nolan; two great-grandchildren, Riley and Wyatt Russell, and another great-grandson expected in March; a step-great-granddaughter, Greta Nolan; three siblings: Marvin (Gladys) Aufdenberg and Leon (Donna) Aufdenberg of Burfordville, Missouri; Robert (Shirley) Aufdenberg of Jackson; brother-in-law, Douglas (the late Perma) White of Weldon Springs, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Sara Jane (the late Ken) Davis of Chesterfield, Missouri; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three siblings and their spouses: Harold (Kathryn) Aufdenberg; Evelyn (Roy) Gholson; Earl (Marian) Aufdenberg; and a sister-in-law, Patricia (Ted) Montgomery.
Visitation is Monday, February 12, 2018, from 4 to 8 p.m., in Chapel A, of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson, and Tuesday, February 13, 2018, from 9 a.m. to service time, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Tilsit.
The funeral is Tuesday, February 13, 2018, at 10 a.m., at the church, with the Rev. Mark Boettcher officiating. Burial and military honors will follow at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
