Jane Shepherd Dunn

Our beautiful wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Jane Shepherd Dunn, passed away after an extended illness on Friday, March 30, 2007. Jane was born in Paris, Idaho on July 30, 1924 to Veda Low Shepherd and Archibald Carl Shepherd. She married A. Dale Dunn in the Salt Lake City Temple on Aug. 26, 1946 and together they had three children. Music was a very important part of Jane´s life. She was a lyric Soprano and in her early twenties, studied voice with the renowned vocalist Emma Lucy Gates Bowen. Jane often told stories of how Emma Lucy´s colorful personality overwhelmed her, being a shy, reserved person herself. Ultimately Jane developed her confidence and perfected her talents. She sang like an angel, and went on to perform in many community and church events throughout her life. Jane also studied piano. She shared her love of music and her abilities as she wrote music and taught both vocal and piano lessons privately. She also was involved in state and local music organizations and served as President of the Music Club in Pocatello, Idaho. Jane attended college at Utah State University and later, in her fifties pursued additional studies at Idaho State University. As in all of her activities, she studied hard and was fully dedicated. Jane was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and demonstrated a devoted testimony of the Lord and Savior throughout her life. Jane was a ÒmotherÓ to many as she served in various callings in the LDS church including Relief Society President and Young Women leader. She had a sincere interest in people and was particularly sensitive to their challenges. She provided a listening, concerned ear and tried to give strength and encouragement. Jane faced a multitude of physical problems throughout her life. Many doctors cared for her and were challenged by her various health conditions. Although she suffered pain and many medical hardships, she always faced them with courage, faith, and a resolve to overcome. Her example of endurance amazed family, friends and associates. Jane´s greatest joy came in her role as a wife and mother. She and Dale recently celebrated 60 years of married life. She was an anchor to her husband in his many church, work, and community responsibilities. Jane was a devoted mother and loved being a grandmother and great-grandmother. All who knew Jane were touched by her warmth, humor, and sensitivity. Jane was preceded in death by her mother, father, and close aunt. She is survived by her husband, Dale; sons, Stephen (Wanda), David (Christine); daughter, Christy; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the Eagle 2nd Ward chapel at 700 W. State Street on Friday, April 6, 2007 at 11 a.m. Viewings will be held at the Relyea Funeral Chapel at 318 N. Latah on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m., and at the Eagle 2nd Ward chapel one hour prior to the funeral. Interment is scheduled for 12 noon, Saturday, April 7, 2007 at the Montpelier Cemetery in Montpelier, Idaho. The family wishes to express gratitude to Dr. Lee Kornfield and the wonderful staff at St. Luke´s Hospital, and many others for their tender care of Jane. Memorials may be made in Jane´s name to the charity of your choice.
