Son of John Firestone and Margaret "Peggy" Thrasher
Husband of Catharine Salome Moomaw
(married 1853-1863)
Signed up for U.S. Civil War Draft July 1, 1863 (although the form is enumerated November 1863) and died July 9, 1863 (8 days later). Have not found a cause of death, as yet. In the U.S. Burial Registers, Military Posts and National Cemeteries record, 1862-1960 (Ancestry.com), he's buried in the North Alton Confederate Cemetery, Alton, Illinois. There's no mention of a Samuel Firestone on the plaque with the other Confederate soldiers or even a single headstone. Putting a copy of the record on his memorial. He's still listed as a civilian, so could that be a contributing factor?
