Samuel V. Bell, Jr.Louisville - . passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, February 24, 2018. He was 92. He was born on December 27, 1925 in Liberty, KY to Samuel V. Bell, Sr. and Ruth Krauss Bell.

After graduating from Casey County High School in 1942, he attended Berea College and then joined the Navy V-12 Program at the University of Louisville in 1943. He proudly served 21 years of active duty in the Navy - retiring in 1964 as a Lieutenant Commander. During his time in the Navy, he saw combat in Korea and served on many ships: including the USS Tarawa, USS Joseph P. Kennedy, USS Zellars, and the USS Norton Sound.

After retiring from the military, he began a new career in education. He earned his master's and Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of Louisville and the University of Kentucky, respectively. He was a faculty member of the Electrical Engineering Department at Speed School for 31 years. During that time, he also served as the Director of Technology Programs, and Associate Chairman of the EE Department. He was dedicated to his students and served as a mentor or faculty advisor to many. He collaborated on many innovative projects while at UofL including one that established the communications system used by Louisville EMS.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 51 years, Carolyn Woolery Bell, his brother, Lewis Bell and his sister, Bertha Seal.

He is survived by children, Benjamin F. Bell, Christopher A. Bell, Whitney Vale (William McCoy), and Susan C. Bell; grandchildren, Lisa L. Bell (James Sneed) and Michael A. Bell; great-grandchildren, Summer and Casey Sneed, Forest Thompson-Bell, and Jade and Rocco Bell; and second wife, Nydia DaSilva.

He was an avid fisherman and Louisville Cardinal fan. He was a long time member of the Walnut Street Baptist Church and attended Ascension Catholic Church, as well. He was a Senior Life Member of the IEEE and a member of Sigma Xi and Etta Kappa Nu.

Visitation will be on Thursday, March 1st, from 2-8PM. A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 2nd, at Noon at Ratterman's. Interment to follow at Cave Hill Cemetery.
