Services honoring and remembering Lavora Mae Miller, will be held 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 24th at the First Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday at Rice Funeral Service in Claremore.
Lavora Mae (Roberts) Miller was born September 30, 1933 the daughter of E.P. and Ora (Eddings) Roberts. Lavora graduated from Latta high School (class of 1951) and was an All-State basketball player. During her senior year, her brother Rocky introduced her to a young man named Donald Miller, and they were married soon after. The young couple first made their home in Mineral Well, TX, where Don was stationed in the Army. After his service, they moved back home to Ada, and in 1955 moved to Tulsa, where Don worked for several years at American Airlines and McDonnell Douglas.
In 1967, the family moved to Claremore, and in 1968 Lavora began a fifty-year career preparing taxes for the community: first operating the H&R Block in Pryor and Claremore for fourteen years, and later opening their own business: Don's Tax Service in Claremore, where Lavora worked until just this past year.
Lavora loved spending time with her family, especially her children and grandchildren: who knew her as Mimi. Many memories were made during holidays at her home. She was the glue that held the family together.
Lavora was preceded in death by her parents: E.P. and Ora Roberts, her husband of 46 years, Don Miller, one son: Richard Ken Miller; and her four siblings: Rocky Roberts, Bill Roberts, Nayoma Choate and Vanoice Norman.
She is survived by her children: Terry Don Miller and his wife Laura, Gary Douglas Miller, Connie Elaine Taylor and her husband Jim, and Randall Lee Miller; eleven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
