Duncan A. McCallum died of disease near Camp Nelson, Arkansas while in Confederate Army (about 30 years old). Specifically he died at "John Cook's house" which was near Camp Nelson.

He is buried in the Bethel Methodist Church cemetery, Pulaski Co., Arkansas. His unmarked grave is next to his aunt Amelia Hunter (McCallum) Barron 1830-1861.
