The son of Leonard & Rebecca (Gulden) Yeagy, he married Louisa Ellen Martin September 5, 1861, in Arendtsville, Adams County, and fathered Mary E. (b. @1865), Elizabeth A. (b. 08/27/67 - married Harry William Ickes), Carrie Rosella (b. 07/07/70 - married Edward Cuddy), Charles Harry (b. 06/18/76), and Elmer Ellsworth (b. 08/02/88 - possibly a grandson). In 1860, he was a laborer living in Butler Township, Adams County, and stood 5' 11" tall with sandy hair and gray eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he was drafted in Adams County October 16, 1862, mustered into federal service at Gettysburg November 14 as a private with Co. F, 165th Pennsylvania Infantry (aka "Drafted Militia"), and honorably discharged with his company July 28, 1863, at Gettysburg.
