Jacob Honn was born in Lincoln County, North Carolina, in 1775 or 1776. He was the third of nine children born to Johann Jacob and Rosina Hahn, immigrants from Germany.

In 1807, he married Mary "Polly" Lawrence, who was also born in North Carolina. They then moved to Cape Girardeau, which at that time was part of the Louisiana Territory. Here, their first five children were born:
- Sophia 1807
- Andrew 1809 *
- Jonas 1811 *
- Jacob Jr 1812 *
- Elizabeth 1814

The family then moved to Washington County, Indiana. Here they had seven more children:
- John 1816
- Joseph 1818
- Eliza 1820 *
- Sarah 1822
- Daniel 1824 *
- Jesse 1827
- Mary Ann 1829 *

* Descendants of these children have been linked by DNA testing.

In 1837, Jacob purchased 40 acres in Owen county, Indiana. His son Jacob Jr purchased another 40 acres. The 1850 and 1860 US Census forms show Jacob and Mary farming in Lafayette Township, Owen County, Indiana.

The 1870 Census shows Mary age 87 living with their son Jesse and his family. It is believed that Jacob died in 1863 and Mary in 1872. Help in finding their graves would be appreciated.
