Robert O. Ailes, 87, 225 Vine St., Connersville, died Monday, May 21, 2001, at Fayette Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient for one week. He was born Dec. 16, 1913, in Fayette County, to Lloyd and Lora Gwinnup Ailes. The 1932 Connersville High School graduate was a member of the Eastside United Methodist Church. He was a 50-year member of the Laurel Masonic Lodge and a 40-year member of the Farm Bureau. He had farmed in the Alpine area for 27 years and also worked with his father and brother at the Fayette Union Stockyards for nine years. He had also worked at Design & Manufacturing for 13 years, retiring in 1978. He enjoyed family and friends and playing euchre. Survivors include three sons, Ronald E. Ailes of Shirley, Robert J. Ailes of Laurel, and Richard L. Ailes of Connersville; one daughter, Rita Hofmman of Kettering, Ohio; one sister, Catherine Hannebaum of Indianapolis; 15 grandchildren and 26 greatgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jessie I. Mauller Ailes, whom he married March 8, 1941, on May 1, 1992; one son, Randall E. Ailes; and a brother, Lawrence Ailes. Service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Urban-Winkler Funeral Home, Connersville. The Rev. Wilma Bone of the Eastside United Methodist Church has been asked to officiate. Burial will be in Dale Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Eastside United Methodist Church or the Fayette County Cancer Society.
