OCTOBER 27, 1927 ~ FEBRUARY 19, 2018 (AGE 90)
Gretchen (Davis) Fadiga, age 90, of Centerville, passed away Monday, February 19, 2018 at the Westhaven Community Nursing Home in Boone, Iowa.
Gretchen was born on October 27, 1927, the daughter of Howard and Ethel (Curtis) Davis at their home, north of Plano, Iowa. She graduated from Promise City High School, at the age of 16, with the Class of 1944. She was united in marriage to John William Fadiga on June 20, 1948 in Plano, Iowa. From this union, two daughters were born, Carol and Patricia.
After high school, Gretchen was employed at the Red Cross Drug Store in Centerville. After settling down with her family, she operated a Home Daycare for several years. When the kids were grown, she went to work for Nielsen Clearing House for 10 years, before her retirement in 1977.
Gretchen enjoyed reading and playing cards. She was a selfless person, helping anyone she could; including volunteering at the local hospital and nursing homes. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Gretchen was a member of the Plano Christian Church her entire life. She was also a member of the "ODO Club", the "GEG Club", the "D Club", the "Sarah Circle", and the "Ladies Aide".
Left to honor Gretchen's memory are her daughters, Carol (Ed) Bacon and Patricia (Larry) Jenkins, both of Boone; two grandsons, Eddie (Angie) Bacon IV of Boone, and Patrick (Stacy) Bacon of Polk City; four great-grandchildren, Grady Bacon, Charlie Bacon, Camden Bacon, and Cassady Bacon; three sisters-in-law, Barbara Carpenter, Frances Bailey, and Roberta Fadiga; two step brothers, Clive (Margaret) Wells and Roger (Norma) Wells; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Fadiga in 1988; her parents, Howard and Ethel Davis; and her sisters, Donna Jean Davis, Geraldine (Morris) Fadiga, and Eleanor (Dale) Jones.
Funeral services will be held at 10AM, Monday, February 26, 2018, at the Plano Christian Church in Plano, Iowa, with Pastor Chad Combs officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Crossroads Cemetery, near Plano, Iowa. A visitation will take place, Sunday, February 25, 2018, at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville, with family greeting friends from 3-5PM. Memorials have been established to either the Appanoose County Lord's Cupboard or Suncrest Hospice, and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, 1900 South 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.
