Mary Letitia Keister (also spelled Kester), was the daughter of Daniel Keister and Matilda Graffius. She was known to family and friends as "Lettie". She was one of 12 children, all born in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania.

Lettie married Daniel Snyder, son John Snyder and Hannah Marie Feuring, 5 Dec 1860 at Bucyrus, Crawford County, Ohio.

In 1866, Daniel and Lettie left Ohio and moved to Illinois, where Daniel worked for the railroad. In 1886, they moved to Clark County, Kansas, where they farmed and raised cattle with their son, William Snyder. Around 1892, Daniel and Lettie moved to Ashland, Kansas where Daniel served four years as register of deeds, four years as probate judge and two years as mayor.

In the fall of 1925, due to Daniel's ill health, he and Lettie moved to Bucklin, Kansas to live with their son, William and his family. In 1927, after Daniel passed away, Lettie went to live with her daughter, Mrs. Alice Skelton, in Wichita, Kansas. Besides her husband, two young children preceded her in death. Surviving were one son, William Kester Snyder and one daughter, Alice Matilda Skelton.

Lettie was a charter member of the Ashland Eastern Star chapter and held the office of Worthy Matron for five years. She was called the "Mother" of the Ashland Chapter.

Lettie died in the home of her daughter, Alice Skelton, on Spruce Street in Wichita, Kansas. A funeral service was held for her at the Methodist Episcopal Church in Ashland, Kansas.
