He was born September 11, 1938, in Chillicothe, Ohio, to the late Orville and Anna Allen Swaney.
On November 19, 1961, he married Shirley Y Carroll, who preceded him in death on July 9, 2016.
Also surviving are a daughter, of Chillicothe; a son, of Chillicothe; five grandchildren; a brother-in-law, of Chillicothe; a brother of Chillicothe.
He was predeceased by sisters-in-law, Gay Carroll and Ruthie Swaney
Wilbur was a 1956 graduate of Southeastern High School.
He served our great country in the United States Army stationed in Kileen, Texas.
He was a member of New Life CCCU in Richmond Dale. He was a life-long farmer and was a member of the Ross County Farm Bureau serving on many committees and as president and a member of Belly Acres Farm Bureau Council.
He was active in the Jefferson Township Fire and EMS for over 50 years, having served as Chief for several years.
He was an avid outdoorsman loving to hunt, trap and fish and was a member and former president of the Lake Royce Club.
His family is especially grateful to the nursing and aid staff and medical team of Heartland Hospice, for the attentive care given to him during his final months.
His caretaker for over 3 years, who also helped with Wilbur's wife and another of his most recent caretakers.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, February 22, 2018 at the Ware Funeral Home.
Burial will follow in Little Mound Cemetery where military graveside rites will be conducted by the Ross County Veterans Honor Guard.
Friends may call at the from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
