Jessie Mai Lilly of the 2400 block of Ruffin St. passed quietly and peacefully into eternal rest on Saturday morning, May 8, 1999, at her home.

"Jessie Mai," as she was affectionately known by family and friends, was a native of Decherd, Tenn., and was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Willie Mai Robinson. She was the widow of James "Pete" Lilly Jr., her husband of more than 50 years.

Mrs. Lilly was a faithful member of New Calvary Baptist Church where she was a deaconess. She was also a member of the D.Y. Campbell Club. She retired from the Virginia State Health Department in 1986.

She always loved the company of others and tried to help those in need any way she could. She was a loving person who truly enjoyed life. She leaves to cherish her memory a daughter, Gail Austin and her husband, Columbus A. III; two sons, James Lilly III, Sidney Lilly and his wife, Clara; and a foster son, Tyrone Mitchell. She will also be sorely missed by five grandchildren, Sidney Lilly Jr., Phillip Thornton, Cindy Lilly, Karen Smith and Cherita Lilly; two brothers, Wallace Robinson and Herman Robinson; and a special niece, Flora "Peaches" Robinson.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at New Calvary Baptist Church by the Rev. Gilbert Campbell. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. Viewing will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Riddick Funeral Service. The body will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. Thursday.
