Geraldine Mary Monnet Koepke was born at a Sumas Hospital with her twin brother Gerald Monnet, October 19, 1932 to Roy and Mable Monnet. They called her Deanie because Jerry couldn't say Geraldine. She started first grade at the Sumas elementary school in 1938 During the summer months her and her brother, Jerry, would pick berries to make money for school clothes. Deanie loved music her father had a band called Monnets Mountaineers. She would go dancing every Saturday night at the Damn Town. In 1948 she went to Nooksack Valley High School. After High School she met Cassell Koepke, everyone called him Duke. They got married in 1950 at the Sumas Advent Christian Church and had three children. Two boys, Terry, and Gary and a little girl named Bonnie. They lived in the Sumas area for 5 or 6 and then moved the family To the Republic area In the late 50s they purchased some property on Barrett Creek. After Duke died from a mining accident in 1982. Deanie moved to Sumas living close to her parents Geraldine lived there for several years than bought a house in Birch Bay to be by her daughter Bonnie Roush she later moved back to Republic living out her final years surrounded by all her friend and Grandchildren.
