"Mr. John Barrett, an old and respectable citizen of Hall county, died very suddenly on Tuesday morning last in Gainesville. He was sitting at the Postoffice in conversation with a friend, when he raised his hands to his face, fell from his seat, and expired immediately. Mr. Barrett was highly esteemed, and has left a large number of connections and friends to mourn his loss." – Dahlonega Signal (Dahlonega, GA)

NOTE 1: John's first wife was Emily Rebecca "Millie" Chastain (#187283103). Their children included Reuben N Barrett (#205051389), James Tarrance Barrett (#61207401), Elisha Chastain Barrett (#68492657), and Charles Barrett (1808-1812).

NOTE 2: John's 2nd wife was Rebecca Stanton (#205051043). Their children included Capel Asbury Barrett (1811-1875), Charlotte B "Charlotty" Barrett (1816-1884), Martha Barrett (1820-1857), John R "Jack" Barrett (#61207613) and Francis Asbury "Frank" Barrett (1826-1871). Thanks to Jim Barrett (47349277) for this info. Some dates are from my records, and I believe that they may have had other children, as well, including William M Barrett (1815-1859), Charles Pickney Barrett (1816-1865), and Ebeneezer Barrett (1818-1883).

NOTE 3: Jim also reports that Sybil McRay, archivist for the Gainesville Public Library, indicated to him that John's son Reuben and John's second wife Rebecca were buried at the end of Holly Drive in Gainesville, Hall County, Georgia. With the building of Lake Lanier and the housing development at the end of Holly Drive, the cemetery has disappeared.
