The funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 11 am in the Edwards Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Westview Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, and other times at her son’s residence, 582 Lakeland Dr., Kinston.
Mrs. Evans, daughter of the late Clen Vance Scott and Ada Lanier, was a lifelong resident of Kinston. She worked for many years, after the death of her first husband, as a secretary for Dawson Construction Company in Kinston. She was a long standing member of First Baptist Church, where she worked after retiring from Dawson.
She lived the last of her life in Spring Arbor, where she made many friends, and enjoyed hymn singing.
Libby was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Stephen Alford, Jr. in 1952; and her second husband, Edward Rutledge Evans in 2000; sisters, Blanche Scott Wallace and Carolyn Scott Gearhart; and brothers, Wilson, Clyde and Ray Scott.
She is survived by one son, Stephen Vance Alford, of Kinston; numerous nieces and nephews; special nieces, Mary Scott Preast and husband, Bill and Gail Scott and husband, Fred; stepchildren, Morris Evans and wife, Cindy, Deborah Chandler, and Richard Evans; and step-grandson, Brian Evans.
