Pierce Leonard O'Byrne.

He served as a Marconi Radio Officer with the British Merchant Navy during WW2, survived the torpedoing and sinking of the SS Otterpool off Brittany by U-30 on the 20th June 1940.
After the war he worked as a Radio Officer with Aer Lingus for a number of years before going into business with Andy Lamont.

Pierce O'Byrne went into partnership with Andrew Lamont, and they operated a hardware shop "The Home Stores" at Terenure Place (beside the Bank of Ireland) for many years.

Pierce Leonard O'Byrne, son of Gerald O'Byrne and Olive O'Byrne, formerly Meaney, of 108 Leinster Road, Rathmines, was born on 15 June 1919 at 38 Ballsbridge Terrace, Dublin.
His father was an Insurance Manager.

The O'Byrne family lived at Olney, Terenure.
