Elder Abner Justice

It is with a sad heart that we make the feeble attempt to write the obituary of one of the fathers in Israel, Elder Abner Justice. He was born June 28, 1854; departed this life November 28, 1936; aged eighty-two years, five months.
Early in life he was married to Mercy Vine Slone. Unto this union were born nine children six boys and three girls. Four of them preceded him in death, one followed him in three days. His loving wife passed away three days before he died.
Elder Justice was converted at the age of 31 years; united to the Primitive Baptist Church, second Sunday in April, 1886; baptized by Elder Mat Justice and had a call to the ministry soon after being baptized, and preached the gospel for fifty years. He always stood for the doctrine of salvation by grace and grace alone. He went through two divisions of the Mates Creek Association and many times made the remark that he wanted to stand on the old punchion, the platform that Christ and the Apostles set forth. He was uncompromising in his conviction and was bold and fearless in the cause of his Master, yet kind to all he met.
His departure has saddened the hearts of many brothers and sisters. We miss his kind fatherly advice and words of comfort. His seat is vacant; his voice is stilled, but he still lives in our sweet memory. May all that the ties of nature and of the grace of God has joined together be reconciled to the will of God and join his four children and many grandchildren and a host of friends to mourn their loss. May the love of our Heavenly Father be over us all.
