* Carol Virginia Hughes Elledge, 92, of Huntsville, Alabama passed away Sunday, February 4, 2018 at her home surrounded by loved ones. Born December 26, 1925 in Niles, Michigan, Carol grew up in Cherokee, Iowa, the second child to the late Albert and Ethel Fricke Hughes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George N. Elledge, a daughter, Marsha S. Erbert Johnson, and her brother, Donald A. Hughes.

Carol was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. After marrying George, a U.S. Air Force pilot during World War II, in 1945, they lived in many U.S. states, England, and Germany as he was transferred by the military. Carol and George and their three children moved to Huntsville in 1963 upon George’s retirement from the U.S. Air Force. They lived on Holmes Avenue, on what for many years was known as Christmas Card Lane because of the giant wooden Christmas cards each neighbor painted and installed in their front yards during the holiday season.

Carol and George were married for 65 years when he passed away in 2010. They were long-time and very active members of Trinity Presbyterian Church on Holmes Avenue. They were also prominent members of the Order of the Eastern Star (Helion Chapter #203) and the Masonic Lodge (Helion Lodge #1) in Huntsville. Carol held several appointed and elected positions in the Eastern Star on a local as well as state level.

Left to cherish her memory includes her two children. Her other survivors include six beloved grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, a nephew, several beloved great-nephews; and many dear friends.
