Bill Flatt, 88, of Condon, Oregon, passed away January 16, 2018 in Vancouver, Washington. A Celebration of Life was held at the Condon High School gym on March 3, 2018. A reception followed at the Condon Grade School gym.
Bill was born on April 26, 1929 in Moro, Oregon. After graduating from Eastern Oregon University, he moved to Condon, Oregon starting Flatt's Truck Service. He later purchased 7 school buses to operate MIDCO school bus company, growing to 900 school buses in the next 50 years.
Bill was on the Condon City Council, President of the Chamber of Commerce, and the Condon Fire Department for 30+ years, all in Condon, Oregon. He served on the Board of Directors for Meadowwood Speech Camp, was Master of the Mt. Moriah Masonic Lodge and was on the Shrine Football committee. Bill served as Exalted Ruler of the Condon Elks in 1959, District Deputy in 1963, 7 years as Oregon State Elks Vice President, becoming President in 1974. He served as Chairman of the Elks National Americanism Committee, carrying the flag at the Chicago National Elks Convention in 1996. He was inducted into the Oregon State Elks Hall of Fame in 1999.
Bill resided at the Quarry Senior Living in Vancouver, Washington for the last 4 years.
Survivors include son, Kevin and wife, Sandy of Spokane, Washington; daughter, Laurie Roberge of Vancouver, Washington; daughter-in-law, Cindy of Joseph, Oregon; son Bruce and wife Ellen of Cove, Oregon; son, Jeff and wife, Mellia of Rainier, Washington; 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggie; son, Doug; son-in-law, Gene Roberge; grand-daughter, Steffanie; his brother, sister and his parents.
