Mr. William Funk was born April 6, 1837, near Bloomington in McLean county, Ill., and died Feb. 11, 1917, in Ashland, Clark county, Kans., being 79 years, 10 months, and 5 days old.
Mr. Funk grew to manhood in Illinois and on Jan. 12, 1860, was married to Mary A. McCann, a widow lady with two children, a son and daughter. To Mr. and Mrs. Funk were born 7 children, of them, but one, Mrs. Houston, survives him.
With his family he came to Sumner county, Kans., in the spring of 1880, and five years later came to Clark county, where he made his home until 7 years ago, when he went to Texas. He had just returned with his daughter from that state on Thursday preceding his death on Sunday, Mrs. Funk died 20 years ago last May.
In his early life in Illinois he was a member and an active worker in the Methodist church, was superintendent of Sunday school, held family devotions and was a regular attendant upon the means of grace.
In his decease he leaves of his immediate family, 3 sisters, 1 daughter, 1 step-daughter, 2 grand-children, and 3 great-grand-children.
Those from out of town who came to attend the funeral were:
Mrs. Glenn his step-daughter her husband and son, from Bloomington, Ill. Mr. McCann, wife and his stepson from Kansas City, and Mrs. Nelson a niece, her daughter and son-in-law and grand children from Wellington.
