Mary Lou Ballou was born December 24, 1941 in Claremore, OK to Robert Lee Ballou, Sr. & Ella Mae (Butler) Ballou. She departed this life on Thursday, January 25, 2018, at the age of 76 years, 1 month, & 1 day.
Mary Lou grew up in the Locust Grove area where she attended Ballou School through the 8th grade. She graduated Locust Grove High School in 1959. She also attended Northeast Area Vo-Tech where she studied business.
Mary Lou lived in Johnsonville, between Locust Grove & Peggs, most of her life. For the past 3 years, she has lived in Tahlequah. She worked as an administrative assistant in the tribal offices of the Cherokee Nation & United Keetoowah Band of the Cherokees until her retirement in 2007. She was a lifetime member of Ballou Baptist Church.
Mary Lou was an avid OU Sooners & Oklahoma City Thunder fan. She enjoyed reading & going hunting for wild onions. As well, she liked to cook & watch cooking shows on the television. She was a self-proclaimed bean cooking expert. Mary Lou loved going to yard sales & thrift stores. She enjoyed taking care of her cat, Hydie. Above all, she treasured the time spent with family, especially her grandchildren & great grandchildren.
Mary Lou is survived by: 1 son: Frankie Rowe of Locust Grove, OK; 4 daughters: Teresa Fine & husband Dennis of Hulbert, OK, Sherry Rowe & Jim Bliss of Tahlequah, OK, Wanda Hammack & Chris Rawson of Tahlequah, OK, & Jennifer Thornton & husband Mark of Tahlequah, OK; 15 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 4 brothers: Martin Ballou of Tahlequah, OK, Clinton Ballou & wife Jolinda of Locust Grove, OK, Danny Ballou & wife Jan of Kenwood, OK, & Robert Ballou, Jr. & wife Sandra of Locust Grove, OK; 4 sisters: Anna Hickman & husband Herman of Tulsa, OK, Sally Backwater & husband Johnny of Kenwood, OK, Eunice Ballou of Tahlequah, OK, & Barbara Deegan of Locust Grove, OK; Numerous other relatives & a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; 3 sisters: Emma Mouse, Wilma Littledave, & Carrie Ballou; 1 brother: Tom Ballou; & the father of her children: Vaughn Rowe.
Wake services were held 6:00 P.M., Monday, January 29, 2018 at the Locust Grove Funeral Home. Funeral services were held 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at Grace and Peace Fellowship Church in Peggs, Oklahoma. Reverend Rufus King and Reverend Garland Jenkins officiated. Interment followed at Ballou Cemetery near Locust Grove, Oklahoma. Services were entrusted to the Locust Grove Funeral Home.
