Austin Young Barnard was the 9th child of 12, born to Melmon & Sinia (Philpott) Barnard. (He was the grandson of Samuel & Frances Kesterson Philpott.)Austin served in Company "K" 94th Illinois Infantry (Union) in the Civil War from 1862-1865. He made a land purchase recorded on May 31, 1872 in McLean County, Illinois. Austin married Tabitha Alice Trimmer on January 11, 1866. She was the daughter of Daniel & Mary Ann (Stretch) Trimmer. He was a member (Corporal) of the 94th regiment, company I and belonged to the William T. Sherman post of the G. A. R. He died of a cerebral hemorrhage.
Austin & Tabitha's six children were:
1. Lavista
2. Myron D.
3. Ida C.Barnard, born Oct. 14, 1869-Jul. 2, 1944. Ida married Joseph L. Greenfield 1862-unknown. They had three children in the 1910 Barton County, Golden City, Missouri census, (3 children with 2 living.)Harlen B. & Josephine Greenfield
4. Ransom
5. Allie
6. Ada Arvesta.
