William C. Grunow Jr., 80, a lifelong resident of Linn Township, died Monday March 5, 2012 at his home. William Carl Grunow Jr. was born on June 16, 1931 in River Forest, IL the son of the late William C. and Valborg (Winnan) Grunow Sr. He graduated from Lake Geneva High School in 1949 and then attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison. On March 22, 1958 in Wauwatosa, WI he was united in marriage to the former Melita Frankfurth.
In 1957 he built Majestic Ski Area in Linn Township and ran it until 1988. During the 1960s he ran Majestic Bandstand, a teen dance hall that presented many big name entertainers. In 1981 he formed Majestic Marine on Geneva Lake and ran it until 2005.
He was a former member and treasurer of the Lake Geneva Water Ski Club. He was a Charter member of the Big Foot Lions Club and a member of the Badger Boosters Club. He was a master gardener and spent many happy hours in his garden. He was a hunter, a golfer and a talented sailor. He loved spending time in the kitchen cooking.
Bill is survived by: Melita, his wife of almost 54 years, 3 sons; William C. (Jenny) Grunow III of Lake Geneva, WI, Randy (Amy) Grunow of Minnetonka, MN and Scot (Brooke) Grunow of Lake Geneva, WI, 9 grandchildren and a sister Valerie (Dale) Liechty of Denver, CO. He was preceded in death by a sister Lois.
A Celebration of Bill's life will be held on Monday March 12, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Derrick Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 800 Park Dr. in Lake Geneva, WI, Pastor Chuck Cervenka of Calvary Community Church will officiate. The Grunow family will receive visitors on Sunday from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
