CHESAPEAK - Kermitt Maxwell Lawrence, Sr., 67, of the 1000 block of Taft Road, died November 25, 2009 at his home. A native of Beaufort, NC, he was the son of the late Mack and Velma Lawrence and had retired as a contract administrator with Norfolk Naval Shipyard after 42 years of service.

After retirement “I would have liked to do what I pleased! Say—fishing, gardening and machine work, but I didn’t have a green thumb or opportunity like Daddy Mack, Granny and Pop, or Mimi. Maybe some of the things I would like to have experienced didn’t occur! I would like to have been perfect -- something that is not achievable (basically impossible.) There are no factors that can identify perfection. There is no such thing as perfect! However, perfection is that you do the best you can to achieve the goal! For all, tomorrow will be another day. And I’ll be just fine regarding eternity for the remainder of time, as God chooses!”

Surviving are his loving wife, Linda Fields Lawrence; a son, Kermitt Maxwell Lawrence, Jr. and his children, Max and Seth; a daughter, Denise L. Clymer and her husband, Steve “Meathead” and their children, Hannah, Preston and Greyson; a sister, Iva Dufore; a brother, Corbitt Lawrence; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Monday at 2 p.m. in Graham Funeral Home, Greenbrier Chapel with Rev. Tom Mercer and Rev. Bob Pihlcrantz officiating. Burial will be in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m.
