Born in Tarpon Springs, Florida, she was the daughter of the late Gabriel and Anna Peterson and widow of Col. Nicholas A. Athanason; mother of two sons, Gary Frank Athanason from Clearwater, Florida and was preceded in death by her son, Dr. Arthur Nicholas Athanason; one daughter, Mrs. Anna M. Facklis from Gainesville.

Her father Gabriel Peterson was the inventor of removable propeller guard which is still used by the sponge fishing boats in Tarpon Springs. She attended both public and parochial schools in Tarpon Springs and also attented Stetson University in Deland, Florida. She was an active member of the Clearwater Garden Club, the U.S. Army Wives and Widow's Club, past president of the Tarpon Springs P.T.A. and past member of the Clearwater Woman's Club and Clearwater Yacht Club.

In addition to her son and daughter, she is survived by two granddaughters, Theda Marie Buckely from Gainesville. Debra Ann Facklis from Tampa, Florida; two grandsons, Nicholas Gary Athanason, Mark Gabriel Athanason both from Clearwater and two great-grandchildren, Ryan Thomas Buckely and Julie Ann Buckely both from Gainesville.

Services were held at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral on Saturday at 1:30 P.M. with internment in Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park.
