She was raised and attended school in both Pauls Valley, Oklahoma and Chico, California. Norvella was an accomplished athlete through school involved in both Gymnastics and Track. She graduated from school in Chico in 1970. In 1971, at the age of 18, she married the love of her life, Donnie Griffith in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Together they had a son and a daughter. Norvella loved being a wife and mother more than anything. She loved and known for her amazing cooking skills. Consider yourself lucky if you enjoyed a plate of her food. Norvella had a great sense of humor and quick laugh. She loved her grandkids, she put them above everyone. All that knew her felt like they knew her kids and grandkids, she loved to brag about them. Norvella always had a personal faith and relationship with God; and prayed for all her family and friends often. She never let things get her down to much, and believed God always had her. More than anything, she was a loyal person, loved fiercely and deeply. Norvella was had a thoughtful heart and spirit; if you needed anything, she was there to help you. She will be missed for her smile, her laugh, and her loved of music.
Norvella is preceded in death by her parents; Carl and Annie Mitchell; brothers, Larry Mitchell, Roger Mitchell; sisters, Carleen Claunch, and Marquetta Webb.
Survivors include her son, James Griffith and wife, Christie of Tulsa; daughter, Kim Griffith of Wayne; grandchildren, Garrett Griffith, Amaya Johnson, Andre Johnson; siblings, Shirley Griffith, Diane Abney and Aaron Mitchell; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 2:00 PM, Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at the Paoli Pentecostal Church. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Pauls Valley, entrusted to the care of Wadley's Funeral Service.
