Actress. She was best known for her roles as 'Matilda' on the 1977 ABC epic miniseries "Roots" and as 'Maggie Rogers' on the 1979 NBC miniseries "Backstairs at the White House". She trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. Her first television role came in 1969 on the soap opera "Guiding Light" where she played the role of 'Deborah Mehren' for two years. Besides "Roots" and "Backstairs at the White House," she would go on to perform on numerous television series during her career with such credits as "Police Woman," "Szysznyk," "Family," "Report to Murphy," "North and South," "Brewster Place," "L.A. Law," and "Murder, She Wrote." She also performed in such films as "Heroes" (1977), "Coming Home" (1978), "Some Kind of Hero" (1982), "Big Shots" (1987), and "First Sunday" (2008). During her career, she also appeared in numerous theatrical productions on and off Broadway. She won an Emmy Award in 1977 for her performance in "Roots" and was nominated for an Emmy in 1979 for her performance in "Backstairs at the White House."
