Helen Lackey Hunter, age 97 of 523 Hunter Bridge Rd., Stony Point passed away Sunday August 8, 2010 at her home, after an extended illness. She was born November 1, 1912 in Alexander County to the late Chalmers A. Lackey and Pearl Price Lackey. Mrs. Hunter was a homemaker and worked on the family farm. She was a life member of the Eastern Star and a life member of the Presbyterian Women. She was also member of New Salem Presbyterian Church in Stony Point.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Hunter; one brother, J. M. Lackey; and two sisters, Modean Lackey Lackey and Arcola Lackey Lutz.

She is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth “Libby” Powell of Statesville; one foster son, Roger Childers of Stony Point; two grandchildren, Beth B. Lail, and Nancy E. Baker; two step grandchildren, Deena Chambers and Sandy P. Moose all of Statesville.

Funeral services will be conducted 3:00pm Wednesday August 11, 2010 at New Salem Presbyterian Church. George Holleman, CLP and Rev. Scott Jefferys will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. An Eastern Star Ceremony will be conducted at 6:30pm Tuesday evening and the visitation will be from 7:00-9:00pm at Chapman Funeral Home.
