Eliza Elizabeth McDowell was first married to J J Smith in Hood County, Texas in 1875
Eliza Elizabeth Smith married Rufus C Russell in 1880 in Brownwood, Texas. They moved to New Mexico where all of their children were born. Eliza Russell died March 8, 1899 in Nogal, New Mexico from complications due to childbirth. She left behind 7 children and a one day old baby. There is no known information on what happened to the one day old baby, if it survived or died. There are no birth or death records in New Mexico at that time. Eliza and Rufus's children are listed in the 1900 Eastland, Texas census records as living with Rufus's parents R.S. Russell and Rhoda Ellen Russell. There was not a baby listed with the other 7 children.
On November 8th, 2018 Eliza Elizabeth Russell's great granddaughter Janice put a memorial headstone in Nogal Cemetery for her. It is located in the front of the cemetery by two trees.
