Brooklyn Officer Dies on China Boat
Hong Kong, Aug. 31 (IP)
Lt. Com. Harrison Avery, 40, commanding the United States Navy patrol boat Isabel, died of a heart attack aboard his vessel today. Born in Pennsylvania, Commander Avery had been In the Navy since 1913. He was commissioned an ensign in 1917. Avery's home is listed as 199 Bay 31st St., Brooklyn, in the Navy Department.

He was the commanding officer of the ill-fated submarine USS O-5 in 1923. The submarine, operating near the Panama Canal, was sunk by collision with the freighter SS Abangarez.

During the 1930 Census, LCDR Avery was living in Arlington, Virginia with his wife, Grace, and two children, Elizabeth H. Avery, and Harrison Avery, Jr.
