Captain Robert "Bo" O. Boaz, DSN 0191, was originally hired as a civilian at the Fleet Service's Division as a shop laborer on 02/06/1952. He quickly moved up to the position of a chauffeur on 04/01/1952. On 12/15/1952 he received his commission and entered the Saint Louis Police Academy. Upon completion of the academy he held the following assignments during his career. They were the 12Th, Secret Service Division-(detached to the 3Rd and 7Th), 12Th, Vice Section, Gambling Section, and the Homicide Section. On 04/06/1969 he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and then transferred to the Bomb and Arson Section, followed by an assignment on 01/28/1972 to the Narcotic's Section. While Sergeant Boaz was in Narcotic's Section he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 01/28/1972. Lieutenant Boaz remained in this position until he was promoted to the rank of Captain on 10/01/1980. On 10/02/1980 he was made Commander of the Robbery-Burglary Section, followed by other command assignments of the Bureau of Investigation on 11/02/1982 and the Bureau of Field Operations on 11/19/1984. Captain Boaz became the Commander of the 1St District on 10/05/1987 and remained there until his retirement on 09/29/1990. During his career Captain Boaz received the following awards. They were 3 letters of Honorable Mention on 04/30/1964, 12/23/1964, 03/13/1978, 2 letters for Exceptional Performance of Duty on 02/28/1964 and 04/30/1964, 4 Chief's Letter's of Commendation on 08/22/1975, 06/1976, 11/15/1976, and 01/28/1977. Captain Boaz also was the recipient of a Meritorious Service Citation on 03/15/1972, and the departments highest award the Medal of Valor in 1973. All of these awards were for heroic and exceptional police work above the call of duty. Very few officers have ever been the recipient of every award that the Saint Louis Metropolitan Police department can bestow upon one of its own. Captain Boaz retired on 09/29/1990 having served 38 years, 7 months, and 23 days of faithful and dedicated service to the Saint Louis Police Department.

Captain Boaz was a veteran of the United States Navy and served from 04/26/1944 to 03/28/1946 during World War II.

It should be noted that the son of Captain Boaz, Mr. Terry Boaz, DSN 710, was a 2Nd generation Law Enforcement Officer in the family. Mr. Terry Boaz served with distinction on the Saint Louis County Police Department retiring after 37 years of service in 2007 as a Detective.

Beloved husband of the late Mrs. Georgette M. (nee Kabbaz) Boaz; dear father of Terry (Pat) and Rick (Angie) Boaz; adored grandfather of Sandy Boaz and Jake Boaz; our dear brother-in-law, uncle, and friend to many.

After his retirement Captain Boaz worked in customer relations at Whalen Security. He will be missed by his many friends at Pietro’s and fishing buddies at Truman Lake.
