JASPER E. BACCUS, JR., an business icon of South Dallas and founder of Baccus Cleaners of Sunnyvale in Oak Cliff in Dallas, Texas, dies. Prominent entrepreneurial businessman who built and owned 12 dry cleaners and two laundromats in Dallas' southern sector more than 55 years ago.

"Jasper Edward Baccus Jr. was born in Dallas, Texas on September 20, 1928. He was the second of eight children born to Jasper Edward Baccus, Sr. and Edna Nixon Baccus. He departed on January 15, 2018. Jasper E. Baccus, Jr. truly understood obeying the gospel to become a Christian and he made that commitment at an early age. He was baptized at Lawrence & Marder Church of Christ, where he was the song leader and faithful member. He later attended Cedar Crest and Dallas West Church of Christ. At the time of his demise, he was a faithful member of Central Pointe’ Church of Christ, under the leadership of Sr. Minister Dr. Rodney Dulin. Mr. Baccus attended Phyllis Wheatley Elementary and Lincoln High School. He united in matrimony with Dorothy, Mary and Billie -- all of whom preceded him in death. Within those unions, sixteen (16) children were born. An avid golfer, Mr. Jasper was the entrepreneur’s businessman. He started and grew Baccus Cleaners into one of the premiere dry cleaners establishments in Dallas, with the anchor store located in the heart of Sunny South Dallas on Martin Luther King Blvd at Malcolm X Blvd. Mr. Jasper loved life and people. He wanted to see his people and community thriving, and he did all he could toward that end. A longtime member and former chairman of the board of the Pylon Salesmanship Club, Mr. Jasper always had a smile, word of wisdom or kind word. Mr. Jasper leaves to cherish his memory, all his children; his siblings, Mrs. Brooksie Baccus Rogers, Mrs. Annie Baccus Bell of Dallas, Texas, Dr. Carl Baccus, and Mrs. Bobbie Baccus Lanham of Los Angeles, California; 49 grandchildren, 69 great grandchildren; eight great-great children; a former daughter-in-law; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who have become family over the years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jasper Baccus Sr. and sisters, Doris Baccus McMath, Dr. Ruth Baccus Murray and Fannie Baccus."
